What Do We Tell The God Of Death

Poem: Solomon Temitope – What Do We Tell The God Of Death?

He came knocking in the middle of the night,
Hovering over the soul
With a bulging eye like that of an owl –
My heart left in fright.

Looming over the failing heart,
Doffing his lifeless hat…
Why should I cry
Because what is dead may never die.

In my dying spirit
I’d give it a treat
To show my worth
Maybe a game of Whot
“pick two, pick three”
“Still you won’t be free”
“Okay, Suspension, now general market!
“You’ve lost your bet”

What do we tell the god of death?
“You didn’t come yesterday”
“I was on a holiday”
“Definitely, Not Today
