Life was uninteresting,
Boring and tiring.
Poverty was smiling at us,
His full grown hands embraced us.

Father’s hoe is blunt,
Mother’s tomatoes are rottening.
Brother is jobless,
But am a beautiful young girl.

My dignity I hold with pride,
Am sixteen approaching seventeen.
The family’s dying,
Papa said am the only hope.

No! Father I can’t,
My future would be shattered,
My pride would be stained,
My dignity would be the sun!

The rich man wants you he said,
Your brideprice is awesome.
The family would be proud of you,
No! Papa I screamed. .

I am Emmanuel
