According to reports reaching us, the 2019 Graywolf Press Africa Prize For Novel Manuscripts is now open to the general public for entries.

About The Award –2019 Graywolf Press Africa Prize For Novel Manuscripts

Founded in 1974, USA, Graywolf Press is the brain behind the award. The Graywolf press is. Committed to the discovery and energetic publication of contemporary American and international literature.”

The award was however launched in 2017.

Submission Period.

The period of submission for 2019 Graywolf Press Africa Prize for Novel Manuscripts spans for 31 days. From the 1st of May to the 31st day of May, 2019.

Deadline for the award remains 31/05/2019.

Award Prize

The prize for this year’s award are as follows;

• $12,000
• Publication In the US & Italy by Graywolf Press.
• Book Marketing in Africa.

A. Igoni Barrett is a recipient of a Norman Mailer Center Fellowship, a Chinua Achebe Center Fellowship, and a Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Residency. Barrett lives in Nigeria, and doubles as the author of “Love is Power or Something Like That” – Collection of stories & “Blackass” – a novel.

Previous Winners

As this is the second edition, the Graywolf Press Africa Prize for Novel Manuscripts has produced just a winner – Khadija Abdalla Bajaber.

Khadija is a Kenyan by nationality. Her manuscript “The House of Rust” was that which earned her the winning prize in 2018. The judge described the manuscript as being sumptuous and bold.

Submission Criteria

  • Applicants for the 2019 Graywolf Press Africa Prize must primarily be a resident of Africa.
  • Your submission must be a full-length novel manuscript which has not been earlier published in any form.
  • Submissions should be in the English language. Although, translations are acceptable too.
  • Applicants who are authors are also eligible, so far none of those authored books is a full-length novel.
